I couldn't get a decent picture so it had to be a postcard.
....
0214 - Coliseum in Rome. January 1958.
Small postcards don't scan very well, 'cos at a resolution high enough to enlarge the picture
the scanner picks up some strange markings not visible on the postcard.
0215 - Castle San Angelo, Rome. January 1958.
Same as 214.

0219 - Alamein 2 v Welch Rgt 2 in Cyprus. April 1958.
That was one hell of a match. Blood was spilled - mine.
The army didn't take kindly to a bunch of matelots stopping them from winning.
0220 - Alamein 2 v Welch Rgt 2 in Cyprus. April 1958.
I know it's a black and white picture but that is a sort of grass on the pitch - in the foreground.
Actually it was more like weeds but it was green.
0221 - Post Match Celebration in Cyprus. April 1958.
Keo wines and beers.
Potent stuff but they should have sent the cutter for us when we asked and not left us ashore for a couple of hours.

Did you know that Gibraltar was called Mount Tariq many years gone by?
....

Troop ship bringing troops to Gib.
Or maybe calling to take some away.

0231 - Me @ 21 on HMS Alamein, Mediterranean. August 1958.
Hmmm! I wonder what was going through the grey matter?
Thoughts of leave probably.

Looks familiar.
....
0233 - Stavrovonni Monastry in Cyprus. May 1958.
Now that's one hell of a climb to get up there.
I never bothered.
0234 - Floodlit Water Polo in Mediterranean, Off Cyprus. September 1958.
Have you ever heard of anything as daft as playing water polo in the middle of the Med and at night?
I mean it was about two miles deep there.
0235 - Floodlit Water Polo in Mediterranean, Off Cyprus. September 1958.
Next morning as we patrolled Cyprus someone reckons that they spotted sharks.
They also spotted dolphins.
0236 - Ship's Company of HMS Alamein, Mediterranean. October 1958.

Guess who did all the real work?
0240 - Me & my 1952 Triumph Thunderbird at HMS Collingwood, Fareham. June 1959.
Cost me £100 including Tax, Insurance and helmet.
Got a bank loan and repaid £120 back over 2 years. Good deal in those days.
0241 - My Triumph 1952 Thunderbird at HMS Collingwood, Fareham. June 1959.

HMS Collingwood to Blackburn, 270 miles in about 6 hours and no motorways just the A34 for most of the way.
0244* - Marlborough. July 1959.
They didn't like motor bikers.
....
0245* - Cheltenham. July 1959.
I wonder if it's as clean now-a-days?
....
0246* - Cheltenham. July 1959.
Cindy from Blaenavon worked in Cheltenham. At the Ladies College.
And I thought that she was a student. Met her when she was on a day trip to the Southsea funfair and we sort of got chatting.
0247* - Me with the mess cat. HMS Collingwood. August 1959.
We weren't really allowed to have mess pets. But it was a stray kitten and sort of attached itself to us.
Someone even made it a small hammock.
0248* - Blaenavon Reservoir. South Wales. August 1959.
Nice country round here.
Full of Welsh people.
0249* - Me on a Royal Enfield Constellation. HMS Collingwood. September 1959.
A few weeks after this picture was taken the owner of the Constellation was killed on the Newbury by-pass
Great bike though. It left my Thunderbird standing.
0250* - Me ready for guard duty with a fortifying tot of Pusser's rum. HMS Collingwood. September 1959.
Now that's what you call a tot of rum. It helped to make the guard duty go faster.
OK! So you can't see it clearly but it was a half pint glass about three quarters full.
